People ask me ALL the time – “When are you guys going to get a dog?”
Guys, I am out on pets. I just am. Of course, this is not to say that our family will never have a pet, and not to say that I don’t like animals, but more that I’m just not into the idea of having one right now. Honestly, I’ve never been keen on this idea since first having kids 9 years ago.
Maybe we missed the boat. Maybe we should have gotten a dog before we started our family, and then that pet would have magically blended into our family and we would have never noticed the difference. But really, since I started having kids, the thought of introducing ONE MORE living, breathing being into our home is enough to put me over the edge. Maybe it’s because we already have four kids, and caring for them seems daunting to even me on some days. Maybe I’m a wimp, maybe I’m heartless, and maybe I am just flatout scared of the responsibility, but I just don’t want to go there.
One more living thing to keep alive. One more living thing to play with. One more living thing to feed, bathe, exercise, and take to the doctor. One more thing in our bed! I think for now we’ll just enjoy our friends’ pets.
