We all know it. Things go DOWN in the car while driving with kids. While driving my carpool route the other afternoon (car filled with my four crazies and two other children), it occurred to me that there ought to be some kind of sticker (or flashing red sign in lights) for cars, announcing that the car is filled with several small dictators and to beware.
Forget “Baby on Board.”
We all know that what I am talking about is an entirely different level of insanity.
One kid is screaming. This time it was my three year old was because he was upset that I switched the music from the Moana soundtrack when his older siblings got in the car.
One kid is announcing the details of their day in VERY loud tones, down to the nitty gritty of who they sat next to at the lunch table, and who got in trouble for having bad behavior in the bathroom. Two kids are fighting over the seating arrangements in the car.
One kid is repeatedly asking me OVER and OVER if I have water for them, but I cannot quite hear them because my three year old is STILL SCREAMING. “I want SHINY!” (Moana song).
This is all a major sidestep from the way the car felt only minutes before – music on, three year old content, me daydreaming in the carpool line about an upcoming vacation, envisioning my little angels getting the car single-file and taking turns describing the details of their days.
Instead, it is utter chaos, and I have to drive the car.
Be kind on the road, lovelies.
We have all experienced these moments, and oftentimes these driving conditions are the NORM.
Imagine thousands of these little microcosms driving around on the roads, all at the same time!
Drive slow, DO NOT honk at other cars who are not moving off the starting line at your speed, and always assume that the mother in the car next to you is being held hostage at the wheel while driving next to you.
