Dads bring the flavor: A 10-year-old’s take on what it means to be a dad

Once again, words fail me. In thinking about what I wanted to write about for the upcoming Father’s Day holiday, nothing that I could conjure up in my head seemed worthy enough to commit to paper. Dads. They make our world fun, silly, passion-filled, and soulful.

They know how to push us forward, and how to apply just enough playful pressure when necessary. They are the energy when us Moms are depleted, the voice of sanity when we need it, and, somehow, they always have time for a snuggle, a game of catch in the backyard, a phone call, “one more book,” or some good, solid advice.

This year, Grace was charged with an assignment in school to write about her “role model.” She chose her Dad, and I thought it appropriate to share here, as we look forward to celebrating Father’s Day this weekend.

Her work was an epistle, but I especially loved the concluding paragraph. I love what she has to say, not only because she is spot on, but also because it shows the depth of love that she feels for her Dad, and that’s what Father’s Day is all about. I am so grateful for their bond.

Cheers to all you Dads out there, bringing the fun and the “flavor.” Keep crushing it.
