Working daily on the details of school lunch, it is easy to get bogged down on little issues and forget the BIG things in life. How can we make our BBQ chicken easier for kids with braces to eat? Do parents want to order once a year or once a month? But if you focus on minutiae, you forget that our business is about BIG stuff, not trivial particulars. Our business is about feeding families. Our business matters because what kids eat matters. Our business matters because ALL families matter, including our own.
This past Saturday, our Choicelunch family grew again. One of our owners, Keith Cosbey, married Christine Wong at the gorgeous chapel of St. Mary’s college. Keith is in charge of joining new schools to our lunch program and Christine is an elementary teacher in the Oakland Diocese. The ceremony featured special readings, Communion, and songs by the Notre Dame Undertones choir, class of 2000. Like all weddings, this event was a celebration of love and family, but it was tremendous to see how extensive the definition of ‘family’ can be.
The reception was catered by our Executive Chef and Director of Operations, Travis Jones.
The wedding staff was made up of all Choicelunchers.
The reception was held at our founders’ home. Larry and Mary Gagnon opened their front yard, backyard, bathrooms and LIVES for a week.
Groomsmen included Choicelunch CEO Justin and COO Ryan. (Here is a rare picture of me, your friendly blogger, also in attendance.)
Can I talk about the food? Guests (like our head of Sales in Northern California, Karen Heller) devoured quail eggs and lamb lollipops. This wasn’t exactly school lunch. Chef Travis has mastered feeding 18,000 kids a day, but try making 200 succulent salmon filets paired with a veal demi glaze, and you are talking about real culinary and operational chops! I am a fish devotee and a former personal chef and to NOT overcook salmon for that many people⦠I had to write a note to him on a napkin to tell him how incredible he and his team performed.
Wedding favors were even done by our Choicepartner, Parker’s Crazy Cookies (who is making a gluten free animal cracker for us for next year!)
Family includes more than those who wear matrimonial rings and who share DNA. Family is about connections. Food is one way to connect and this family of yours at Choicelunch, can’t wait to connect with you, our extended family, this upcoming school year!
Welcome to the family, Christine!
