Who am I?
Foodie lore has it that I was created about a century ago to help a famous Roman chef, Alfredo, feed his pregnant, nauseous wife. She couldn’t keep anything down. Alfredo added extra butter, tons of cream and a hefty handful of parmesan cheese to some hot pasta and abracadabra, I became a classic Italian dish. Kids love me, especially those who turn away from my Christmas-colored cousins: marinara and pesto.
I can be finicky and tricky to make, though. Play with my ingredients to try to be healthy, or let me sit for too long before I am gobbled up, and I will punish you. Moist, silky noodles can make me gooey, and gummy. I put fear into the hearts of many happy chefs.
Choicelunch Chefs tried to perfect me. They spent hours thinking, cooking and tinkering. I tricked them. What worked in batches of 100 did not work in batches of 1000. Last Friday, while kids were parading in their Halloween costumes on the black top, I sat in ovens and went from yummy to less-than-tasty.
The Choicelunch Chefs have learned their lesson. I am delicious in the moment, but I can’t sit for more than a few minutes before deliciousness wanes. You won’t see me again on the Choicelunch menu. Farewell my friends!
