Mr. Gagnon Goes to Washington
This week, our CEO Justin has been asked to Washington DC to talk about school lunch. He’s not just talking about food or childhood obesity (though you can be sure his passion about these will be articulated. He is quite a compelling speaker!) He’s talking about how government regulations impinge on scratch-made cooking in schools. He’s talking about what it takes to build a company and create jobs in a tough economy.
Justin will be asking tough questions, too, like why government allows big Agribusiness to take federal subsidies so our kids can eat processed junk? With all of the talk, you can be sure Justin’s point won’t be, “hey Choicelunch should be in every school in the Nation.” That just isn’t our mission. Choicelunch is unique and exceptional. Choicelunch is for you, a particular group of schools and families that understand the importance of real food, every school day. Every day we gets calls or inquiries from people who want Choicelunch at their school. 9 times out of 10 though, Choicelunch isn’t a good fit. You’d think that as we grow, we would seek all opportunities to extend our program. The reality is though, we know what makes a successful Choicelunch school and not every school can be, or should be a Choicelunch school. A Choicelunch school is a school whose parents and kids understand that excellent food, sourced from local, sustainable ingredients is going to cost more than $2.00. A school that thinks outside of the proverbial lunch box. A school community that can appreciate the only school lunch ordering system with an iPhone App, for example! Of course, I am sure Justin will talk about what we’ve been able to achieve at Choicelunch, and how we are constantly trying to solve old problems with new thinking. Maybe he’ll even show off our iPhone App to a Senator or two. But he is also talking about the big picture, about school lunch in America and what can be done to fix it. I am sure Justin will give us a full report on his meetings and encounters in our Nation’s Capital. Until then- Good luck, Justin!
