The mixed tape of school lunch

The mixed tape of school lunch

Next week we are revealing a new website to go with the brand new school year. It’s funny because when we asked some parents what they liked about Choicelunch, many of them pointed to the ease of the website, the nifty entrée photos and the general usability. But we felt it could be better. And looking at the website currently being tested, ‘nifty’ doesn’t begin to describe how cool this thing is. The new Choicelunch.com is going to blow your mind. Seriously.

I was trying to think of a good analogy to illustrate the difference. Walking solo last weekend while my husband and son relished Mom being out of the house and not rustling them out the door for a diner breakfast, it came to me. Choicelunch.com right now is like your best friend’s mixed tape from high school. It has all your favorite alternative music, classic rock, maybe a little hip hop. You’ve listened to it for years because she made it for you with love and thought, spending hours on her bedroom floor listing song titles, drawing little hearts on the Memorex case with white out and timing the pauses so there wasn’t 10 minutes of dead air at the end of the compilation. You love that tape, but it is quaint and frankly, not exactly fresh and exciting anymore as you know which Grateful Dead song comes after En Vogue.

The new Chocielunch.com, debuting August 6th is like the latest micro iPod. Instead of a mixed tape, ala 1990, in 2012 you can download thousands of ballads and create playlists to perfectly suit any mood (dinner party background music, yoga meditation playlists, then a little compilation for the kids on long road trips.) With the new Choicelunch website, you can easily see all of the 16 choices a day without having to scroll through page after page, or use clunky drop down boxes. The menu on the calendar is full of big pictures, so your kids feel comfortable ordering something they’ve seen but haven’t necessarily tasted. You can see all of your kids on one menu page, even when they are at different schools. You can set up an easy order feature that is so intuitive we tell you what we think your kids want based on your last 3 months of ordering history. You can even filter for allergens, like you’ve been able to this year on the iPhone app.

Seriously, mixed tapes are awesome and will always have place in your heart, but do your kids even know what a mixed tape is? Probably not, but they sure know how to hit play on that latest Silicon Valley device! This calls for a little Beethoven’s 9th: “Ode to Joy!”
