We have a fabulous group of 10 (yes, 10!) School Specialists who spend their days going from school to school, making sure our lunches are as enjoyable as possible and that all is right in the Choicelunch world. Most of our School Specialists were first Moms who ordered our lunches for their kids. We made their lives easier, saved them time, and they joined us to spend that time spreading the word. Odd how the world works, huh?

In February 2004, we introduced our proprietary website-choicelunch.com. It was state-of-the-art. No school lunch service that we knew of had online ordering with the kind of menu features we built ‘back in the day.’ Through the years, the website has transformed the way families order school lunches.

Today, the troops at the front of the lunch line gathered (virtually) to attend a webinar for the School Nutrition Association members. The SNA is the professional organization to which ‘lunch ladies’ all belong. Leading the presentation was a White House Chef, a Deputy Secretary of the USDA and lots of impressive-sounding folks who probably have never donned a hair net. They fielded strictly monitored questions. It was an interesting way to spend 90 minutes.

For the first time, Choicelunchers will soon have their pick of 100% apple juice and 100% orange juice! The new orange juice will be rolled out in the coming weeks to our schools that do currently offer juice, but not all schools elect this option, so you might want to check with your kids to see what they see at lunch.

Do you watch reality shows on TV, such as ‘Top Chef,’  ‘Iron Chef,’ or ‘Cupcake Wars?’ If so, you know that judging food is a very subjective process. Tom Colicchio will praise the sweetness of a tart, while Padma will proclaim the same nibble, ‘bland’ and ‘tasteless.’ So it goes with our recipe development process here at Choicelunch. I have talked before about how we create recipes, conduct taste tests, collect feedback and do field tests to make sure that our dishes are as good as they can be before they go on our Choicelunch menu.
